The Department’s proposal to amend the Regulations for Degree Conferral and Graduate Degree Examinations has been officially approved. Explanation is as follows:
- Approval Process: This proposal was passed by the 4th Departmental Meeting of Academic Year 113 on June 12, 2025, and subsequently approved by the 1st College of Liberal Arts Board Meeting of Academic Year 114 on September 10, 2025.
- Scope of Amendment: This amendment revises the notes section of the “Ph.D. Foreign Language Proficiency Graduation Requirement Standards” attached to the “Curriculum Table” within the Regulations for Graduate Degree Conferral and Graduate Degree Examinations. Key revised provisions are as follows:
- (1) Research Relevance: The second foreign language does not necessarily need to be directly related to the graduate student’s research area.
- (2) Language Options: The list of originally specified second foreign languages is retained. Other languages may be applied for on a special-case basis in accordance with Department regulations.
- (3) Credit Waiver & Recognition: In addition to standardized proficiency tests, students may complete 8 credits from relevant College of Liberal Arts language programs (such as Japanese or Korean) to waive the corresponding required proficiency level (JLPT N3 / TOPIK Intermediate). For French, passing Level 4 coursework or examination at the NTNU French Center will be recognized.
